Expectations

Updated: Nov 25, 2021

Expectation is defined as 'a strong belief that something will happen or be the case'.

Any issues or complications starts arising in any relationship when an individual's expectations are not fulfilled by others. We all have many relatives and friends in our life and our list of expectations from every relationship is also never ending. Even though we know from the above stated definition of expectation that it is just a belief, we still keep on expecting from others.

Do not expect anything from anyone because the Almighty God himself does not expect anything from anyone but continues performing His duty of giving us whatever we deserve without thinking whether we are loving Him or not; or praying to Him or not.

There were 2 co-workers (Mr. A and Mr. B) working in an organization since past several years and both had become good friends. Recently a pay rise was announced, and Mr. B was dissatisfied and unhappy with his pay rise. Mr. A did not express any positive or negative comment on his pay rise (similar to every year). Mr. B asked Mr. A regarding the reason of his behaviour and whether he had got good pay rise or not (as per his expectations). Mr. A told Mr. B that we are all working in this organization to enhance our career and to fulfil our family responsibilities. Every year when the pay rise is announced I do not expect any pay rise for myself and then even though I get little or more pay rise, I am satisfied. I have made my life such that I expect zero from everywhere and therefore I am satisfied with whatever I get. This helps me to be peaceful always in all my areas of life.

Similarly, we should always perform our duty without thinking about any expectations. Instead, keep expectations from yourself. I know it is difficult but try this and you will feel immense satisfaction and peace and ultimately you will feel bliss in all your relationships.
