Importance of Self Motivation

Few weeks ago, we watched a comedy movie as part of our weekend family movie time. Since the movie was humorous, we decided to watch it again the same weekend for the 2nd time and once again for the 3rd time over the last weekend. There was a big difference in the fun that we experienced between the 1st and the 3rd time. Why was this so? It is because, no matter how funny the movie was, the level of laughter will not be the same every time especially because you are seeing it continuously. But is this the same with 'Complaining' and 'Comparing'? Certainly not. We keep on complaining and comparing more and more even after knowing that people or situations will not change no matter what you do.

Then, why do we keep on complaining and comparing constantly? One of the most important reasons for this is because of lack of self motivation. When you are motivated, you do not have any time to complain or compare. You are busy performing your duties, improving yourself and doing things that make you happy and feel content. The only complaint or comparison that you get involved in when you are motivated is to advance or upgrade yourself. But when one lacks self motivation, it is very easy to fall into the trap of negative emotions which often leads to unreasonable complaints and comparisons. Most of the times the complaints are repetitive even though one is very much aware that the person for whom he/she is complaining will not change. Further, we cannot control anyone else and force them to behave in a particular manner. Comparison is another act that one involves in when suffering from lack of self motivation. Unreasonable comparison is like comparing apples with mangoes or red grapes with green grapes. If you want to live a happy life, never ever compare any one with other whatsoever to highlight any flaws.

Start the practice of self motivation every day and you will see that slowly slowly your life will be without complaining and comparing. Some ways to easily self-motivate yourself are:

1. Reading good books especially inspirational books, blogs and spiritual scriptures.

2. Listening to or watching inspirational videos and movies.

3. After performing your duties, soothe and sizzle your soul by engaging in the activities that make you feel happy.

4. Every time your mind starts complaining or comparing, start thinking about your own weaknesses and make plans to get rid of this. Alternatively, you can start thinking about that person's strengths.

5. Surround your workplace and your home with beautiful inspirational quotes, notes and messages.

6. Express gratitude on a daily basis for every person, thing and situation in your life as without these you would have not been able to learn the lessons that you learnt.
